Former Minister for Youth and Sports under the NDC government and Member of Parliament for Odododiodio constituency, Nii Lante Vanderpuye has thrown jabs at Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah and says he wouldn’t have allowed the visa scandal that has erupted during the Commonwealth Games to happen if he was at post as the Sports Minister.
The said issue has led to the President of the Republic, Nana Akufo-Addo suspending the Deputy Sports Minister Pius Enam Hadzidze and Director-General Robert Sarfo Mensah after 60 Ghanaians were deported from Australia. Those deported are believed to have impersonated as journalists and also members of Ghana’s Beach Volleyball team.
Nii Lante Vanderpuye in an interview on UTV’s Adekye Nkroma said, “This wouldn’t have happened under the watch of Nii Lante Vanderpuye. I was able to break the mafia that is why this didn’t happen during my time”.
He also mentioned that Sports Minister Isaac Asiamah should have sought his advice when he took charge at the Sports Ministry but his constant criticism of his work has unable him to.
“He always criticized my management style and even wanted John Mahama to take me out of the Ministry during my time.
“Asiamah should have consulted me for advice but he was criticizing everything I was doing when I was at the Ministry. Now it seems he is even following my footsteps at the Sports Ministry.
Nii Lante stated that in order for the scandal surrounding this issue to be unraveled the government should set up a bi-partisan committee to investigate the matter.
“We need a bi-partisan committee to investigate this matter so the real culprits will be punished. “We don’t want the National Security or Criminal Investigation Department to deal with this matter because they cannot implicate those who are in power”, he added.
