The Senior national female team the Black Queens of Ghana will be awarded by the government with $32,000 for winning the maiden edition of the WAFU Zone B Women Championship which was held in Cote D’Ivoire in February.
The Black Queens lifted their first major trophy after defeating host nation Ivory Coast to annex the title in the final.
The Minister for Youth and Sports, Isaac Asiamah announced the package during the Ministry’s ‘Meet the Press’ program held on Tuesday at the Ministry of Information Conference Hall.
Sportsnetghana checks at the Ministry indicate that both the players and the technical team will receive $1,000 each and the money will be paid in the local currency.
The Minister explained that the Queens are receiving this money because the tournament they participated in involved only eight teams and was just a fraction of the West Africa teams that competed in the tournament unlike the men’s edition which had 16 teams.
Asiamah also stated that the Sports Ministry will provide enough preparations for the female national teams who have qualified to their respective tournaments.
