Gabon were held to a pulsating 1-1 draw game by Guinea Bissau on Saturday in the first game (Group A) of the 2017 AFCON championship.
It was a boring first half display from the two sides, as they failed to get the ball at the back of the net.
The tempo of the game increased in the second half – Gabon besieged the goal area of the debutantes but failed to convert the chances they created.
The hosts never got despaired as they kept the heat on Guinea Bissau and in the 60th Pierre Emerick Aubameyang broke the deadlock from close range.
Soon after the goal, Guinea Bissau came into the game strongly, but Gabon defenders were resolute at the back.
However, late in the game Guinea Bissau’s hard work yielded dividend as Juary Soares pulled even as the game ended 1-1.
In the second game in the group, Burkina Faso came from behind to hold Cameroon to a 1-1 draw on Saturday in Libreville.
Captain Benjamin Mounkandjo gave Cameroon the lead in the first half before Issoufou Dayo levelled for the Burkinabes midway in the second half.
