The General Secretary of WAFU Zone A, Mr Jammel E.K Bojan has explained that the 2017 WAFU tournament which kick starts in Ghana on the 9th Sept. 2017 is not just limited to players on the local front but to any African player in the world.
The tournament which saw lots of dignitaries graced the launch on Thursday night at the La Beach Hotel would see a knock out round in the first face with Ghana playing The Gambia in the opening Group A match whiles Senegal also pitches their strength in Group B against Liberia.
Many has already said on several platforms that the tournament only encourages local players, but this is not really the actual truth, the general Secretary of WAFU zone A Mr Jammel E.k Bojan explained to Sportsnetghana.com:
“In this tournament we want the CHAN teams but regardless, if any country can get her players from Europe to come down an play, they will be accommodated so long as they have their passports to confirm they are natives,” he stated.
“It becomes a platform for players to be scouted and get teams to play for in the future, so for instance if Nigeria has a player outside the country who is not affiliated to any club, he can be included in the team.”
The tournament begins on the 9th Sep and ends on 22nd September 2017.
The Takoradi stadium will serve as venue for the Group A matches whiles Group B will also be accommodated by the Cape coast newly built stadium.
