Daniel Lomotey Completes Double Over Hearts of Oak and Kotoko

WAFA hitman, Daniel Lomotey is a man on a mission in his debut Ghana Premier League campaign and he further cemented his burgeoning reputation for banging in goals on Wednesday by completing the double over the two giants of Ghana football when he netted against Kumasi Asante Kotoko in Sogakofe.

The youngster, who celebrated his 18th birthday just last week made it three goals against Ghana’s two big clubs, Accra Hearts Of Oak and Kotoko of course following the strike in WAFA’s 2-0 win over the Kumasi giants in their outstanding league game having earlier scored two classic goals against Hearts at the same Red Bull Arena when they handed the Accra giants their worst ever defeat in Ghanaian league history, a 5-0 thrashing earlier this season.

Not only are his club high 8 goals propelling the Sogakofe academy lads to an unbelievable run at the league title sitting two points atop the standings with a mere 6 games to go, the former Denart Soccer Academy of Ada trainee ensured he went into the record books as scoring against both of the two giant clubs in his debut games against both in his debut season after coming straight from the juvenile football division.

The former Denart Soccer Academy colts goal poacher who missed both away games against Hearts and Kotoko due to accumulated yellow cards and injury respectively, said after the match that he got massive respect for Hearts and Kotoko but he had to his job which is just scoring goals.

“I’m excited to have scored against the two big clubs in Ghana, Hearts and Kotoko. I have respect for them but not for goals. I vowed to score against both of them and I’m happy to achieve that target in my debut season,” Lomotey said post match.

“I thank God, my teammates, our faithful WAFA supporters and the technical team and coach Klaus Rasmussen for their support and encouragement,” he added.

Having set the lofty target of winning the goal king gong in his maiden league campaign, young Lomotey now has eight (8) goals and three assists in the ongoing Ghana Premier league, one goal in the MTN FA Cup and one international goal on debut for the Black Stars Team B against Togo in Stadé de Kegué last month.

He was in the Black Stars B squad which lost to Burkina Faso in Kumasi on Sunday but could not play because officials claimed they had forgotten his passport back in Accra, a claim sources close to the player allege may have just been a conspiracy to deny him game time in preference to certain strikers who were known to be carrying injuries. In the end, Ghana didn’t have Lomotey on the pitch to support with his goals and were knocked out. Two days later he arrived in Accra, went to WAFA and a day later netted against Kotoko.

The now 18 year old goal machine is reportedly on the radar of some top European clubs and could even sign for a certain former England Premier League champions even before the transfer window shuts next week.

But Lomotey remains focused on the job at hand which is to fire in the goals to not only champion WAFA to an improbable league triumph, but realise his very own goal king target and also lead the striking role for the local Black Stars in the upcoming WAFU tournament to be staged in Ghana next month.
