This years much anticipated national cycling championship is set to roll off from the 22nd-25th June,2017 in Sunyani, the Brong Ahafo.
Last year edition of the Ghana national championship and congress was organized in the Greater Accra region, it was an idea to rotate the Ghana national championship and the national congress all the 10 regional capital’s in every year.
This year’s championship and Congress is going to be organized in Sunyani- the regional capital of the Brong/Ahafo region.
Next year the flagship event will be organized in the northern regional capital -Tamale which will encompass the championship and the elective congress.
The event , which falls under the umbrella of the UCI ,fulfills the obligations of the world body’s rules and regulations governing the sport for every National federation.
Ghana is thus privileged to be hosting the champions/ ordinary Congress in a stylish fashion.
The township of sunyani is prepared to embrace over 12 cycling clubs, 72 cyclists, 33 officials and a host of media personnel.
All eyes will be on the reigning National champion – Emmanuel Sackey of velo stars as his hold on the prestigious title hangs in a balance.
The likes of Frank Akuffo of Velo stars, Isaac Sackey of Team sky and Anthony Boakye of River Park Brong Ahafo are all poised to strip the reigning National champion of his pride.
President of the Ghana Cycling Federation – Mohammed Sahnoon and his charges are leaving no stone unturned to make this championship one of the best in national history.
This year’s National championship will see the anxious females and males cyclists battling for laurels in three categories, Juniors, Under23 and Elite :
1. Individual time trial
2. Team time trial
3. Road race
Technical Director of the Ghana Cycling Federation Shaaban Mohammed is of great optimism the event will unravel the best in the wheelers.
” We hope this is going to be one of the best National championships in Africa. You can see how the female division is even prepared for this showdown” he said.
The championship is being propelled by the National Sports Authority, the Ministry of Youth and sports, the Ghana Cycling Federation and IQRA Ltd
Reports and updates of the championship will be communicated to all the cycling fraternity in Africa.
