Family of Late Uriah Asante Receive GH¢100,000 From SIC Life

SICLife Company Limited has honoured the memory of the late Uriah Asante, a former Hearts of Oak player.

Asante, 24, died of cardiac arrest on June 2016 at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.

The group presented a cheque of GH¢100,000 to the family of the playmaker at a short ceremony held at the head office of Professional Footballers Association Ghana (PFAG), located at the Accra Sports Stadium.

The motive for the gesture, according to the Head of Marketing as SICLife Albert Bahun-Wilson is because the late Uriah Asante was covered by the insurance for Ghana Premier League players spearheaded by the PFAG.

He further noted that, the insurance cover provides benefits for both temporal and permanent disabilities, death and other defined situations all in a bid to provide some cushion to the players. The premium for the insurance policy has been paid in full by the PFAG.

Bahun-Wilson lauded the PFAG for their foresight and encouraged other sporting disciplines to take a cue from them.

General Secretary of the PFAG, Anthony Baffoe, commended SICLife and its sister company SIC Insurance for supporting their cause.

Though the GHC100, 000 will not bring back Uriah Asante, he stated that the gesture will bring some respite to the family.

Baffoe also ceased the opportunity to call on all football administrators, players and other stakeholders to support this initiative to breathe life into our local football.
