GHALCA G8: Hearts of Oak, Kotoko Through To Semis

Accra Hearts of Oak beat Ebusua Dwarfs 3-2 in the last group match of the GHALCA G8 tournament in a fascinating match played at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium on Sunday.

A brace from substitute Richard Zuma and a goal from Chrstopher Bonney ensured Hearts secured all three points as they booked a spot in the semi-finals of the G8 competition.

Stephen Bentil and Joseph Esso scored a goal each for Dwarfs but wasn’t enough for them as they were ousted from the competition.

The first half begun on a cagey note with both sides trying to win the early midfield battle with Hearts emerging the better side but lacked quality in the attacking third.

Stephen Bentil scored the opener for Dwarfs with a ferocious header past Hearts goalkeeper after a superb corner-kick from Stephen Isaac Donkor.

Christopher Bonney restored parity for the Phobians in the 30th minute when he calmly converted from the penalty spot after Daniel Kordie was brought down in the penalty box.

Joseph Esso gave Dwarfs the lead on the 63rd minute mark after he struck home from the penalty spot.

Richard Zuma restored parity for the Phobians two minutes after some poor defending by Dwarfs as he struck the past Emmanuel Nealingu.

Zuma stepped once again in late stages of the game as he finished off a superb move from the Phobians lads as they secured maximum points.

At the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Asante Kotoko beat Aduana Stars 2-0.

The Kumasi giants made their intention clear from the blast of the whistle – they piled pressure on Aduana Stars in search of the opener.

Eric Donkor shot Kotoko into the lead with a brilliant strike in the 44th minute of the tie.

Aduana Stars started the second half strongly but Kotoko defended their lines very well.

With six minutes left on the clock Kwame Boahene doubled Kotoko’s lead with a superb strike to put the game beyond the reach of the Dormaa giants.

The two teams have thus made it to the semi-finals of the ongoing competition.

Aduana Stars and Medeama have also qualified to the sem-finals of the off-season tourney.
